Isaac Kuyunov
Prosthodontist / Owner
DMD
What is your education and training background?
After graduation from dental school, I pursued a general practice residency. It's a hospital-based residency where I treated patients with emergencies and performed surgical procedures. This lasted for one year. I was exposed to a lot of different, really nice procedures, and afterward, I went to work as a general dentist in a private office. During that time, I developed a passion for treating complex cases, complex restorative cases, and that's what drew me to prosthodontics. With this, I came to Rochester and completed my residency in prosthodontics at Eastman Dental Center, and after three years, I graduated and went to work at the Veterans Affairs Hospital Clinic on Finger Lakes of Western New York. I was there for about three years, after which I opened a private practice, and that's where I am now.
I attended the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine from 2010 to 2014. I graduated in 2014.
Why did you choose dentistry and prosthodontics?
It just seemed to me a great combination of precision and science and working with your hands, and I just enjoyed seeing people smiling. The smile really made it for me. There's something special about it. When people smile, their smile is so beautiful. I was just attracted to it and wanted to pursue a career where I can provide smiles to people. That's why I chose dentistry as my profession.
What is your favorite part of your job?
My favorite part of my job is actually finishing what I'm doing and comparing the before and after results and seeing people just having the aha moment when they receive their teeth and get a new smile. It just changes a person's life, gives them a whole new perspective on life, and that's what really keeps me going and gets me really excited. When I see a patient who needs some rehabilitation, and they're not aware of what can be done for them, after some education and introduction, they're giving their trust to us, and we're working through this trust. By the time we finish, that's really the most exciting moment. We love our patients. Our patients love us.
What are your personal hobbies and interests?
My personal hobbies: I like to do sports activities, play soccer, go on hikes with kids, like to do some jogging myself, and a little bit of traveling in the parks of Western New York. Beautiful nature here.
What is your work history in dentistry?
My work history in dentistry is not very complex. I worked for one year in a private practice that was in Riverdale, New York. After this one year, I did my three-year residency in prosthodontics, after which I worked in a clinic, the Veterans Affairs clinic of the Finger Lakes VA hospital system, and after three years, I started in a private practice of my own, and that's where I am now.
What are your favorite aspects of providing dental care to patients?
My favorite aspects of providing dental care to patients, are restoring smiles and restoring missing teeth. The best way of restoring missing teeth really is with implants, but when everything else cannot work, there are also other options, and I just enjoy exploring other options and providing whatever is possible for the patient to be successful, to provide them.
What certificates and professional memberships do you have?
Besides my diploma from dental school, the other certificates that I have in dentistry are prosthodontics certificates of completion. I'm a member of the American Dental Association and everything that is associated with this, as well as the New York State Dental Association District 7 and the Monroe County Dental Society.
